Gift inspiration: what to give someone who is going on a trip
OtherIt can be quite difficult to come up with a gift for someone going on a trip, so this blog post offers a list of inspiration. There are gift ideas for backpackers, campers, and travel enthusiasts alike.
Gifts for the backpacker
Passport cover
If you're looking for a small gift that you know someone will definitely use, consider a passport cover. Passport covers are available in a variety of prints, so there's sure to be something they'll love.
Storage tin or bag for shampoo bar
If you're backpacking and also use your backpack as carry-on luggage for domestic flights, shampoo bars and other non-liquid shower products are very handy. Good storage containers for your shower products are essential. Read more about using these products in my blog post about shampoo bars.
Linen or canvas bag
A linen bag is also a great gift, available in many different colors and prints. You can easily personalize this gift to your loved one. When traveling, it's handy to take a linen bag with you for shopping or a trip to the beach. It's also easy to pack in a backpack.
Hammam towel
Hammam towels are handy to take with you when traveling because they dry so quickly! When you need to go somewhere else, you don't have to pack your wet beach towel in your luggage. An ideal gift for backpackers.
Packing-cubes
Organizing your backpack can often be a challenge, but special packing cubes keep everything neat. This is a practical gift for travelers who often have to rummage in and out of their bags.
Small notebook
It's handy to take a small notebook with you when traveling. You can jot down your first address or other important information in it. Since this gift is available in many different stores, it's easy to find a good one for someone going on a trip!
Friendship book
When a traveler goes on a longer trip, they're sure to meet lots of new people. A fun way to remember all these people is by completing the Friendship Book for Backpackers. It makes a great gift!

Gifts for the camper
Water-repellent picnic blanket
You're probably familiar with those blankets with a water-repellent coating on the underside. Besides being handy to take to the park, they're also ideal for the beach. They're also handy to lay out in front of your tent, making them a great gift for campers.
Power bank
A power bank is essential when campers run out of power and need to be reachable. These days, power banks are readily available at many different stores.
Games
If someone enjoys camping, giving a game is a great gift. You can enjoy games at the campsite both during the day and in the evening. Some of my favorite camping games are: Beaver Gang, Catan: The Fast Card Game, the classic Yatzee, and Kubb. A nice set of cards can also make a nice gift.
Bee's Wrap (lunch packaging)
Super handy to have with you when traveling: reusable foil, also known as Bee's Wrap. This way, you can make sandwiches at the campsite and, like a true Dutchman, take them with you on your next trip. If you're looking for a practical gift for a camper, Bee's Wrap is a must-have.
Hammock
It's wonderful to take a hammock camping. It's wonderful to read a book in it or just lie down for a while. When giving a hammock as a gift, it's helpful to include a sturdy rope or hooks so the hammock can be securely attached to a tree.

Gifts for the travel enthusiast
Travel (day/activity) book
There are several travel-related journals and activity books. The Bucket List Travel Book lists 250 must-do items. There's also space to add your own photos. The Adventure Book has space to post your favorite photos or write down your fondest memories for each country. It also includes a map where you can mark the countries you've visited.

Books
You can, of course, give books specifically about a country, but it's also nice to give a more general travel book. Consider, for example, 80 Inspiring & Sustainable No-fly Travel Itineraries (Lonely Planet), which outlines inspiring routes that don't require flying. Or the book The Great Outdoors, which features 120 recipes for adventurous outdoor cooking.
Hopefully this blog has given you enough inspiration for the perfect gift for the traveler!
