Shampoo bar: ideal for taking with you when traveling

Taking shampoo bars with you while traveling has many advantages. First, they save space because shampoo bars are smaller than a shampoo bottle, so you need to carry fewer of them. Furthermore, a shampoo bar doesn't contain any liquid, so you can take it in your carry-on. Another major advantage: a shampoo bar won't leak in your bag or suitcase while traveling.

What is a shampoo bar?

Because water and preservatives have been removed from the shampoo, a compact, round disc or square block remains. Most shampoo bars consist largely of natural ingredients.

The benefits of a shampoo bar

The biggest advantage of a shampoo bar is the reduced plastic consumption. A shampoo bar doesn't have any plastic packaging. It usually comes in a box, but they're also sold without packaging. A shampoo bar lasts longer than a bottle of shampoo. This means fewer trips to the store, and it ultimately saves you money.

The use of shampoo bars

When you start using shampoo bars, your hair needs a period of adjustment. This is mainly because your hair has become accustomed to certain ingredients in your "old" shampoo. Your hair may initially feel greasier or drier when you first use the shampoo bar. Give your hair time to adjust. There are several ways to apply the shampoo. You can apply the shampoo bar directly to your hair, or work it into your hair with your hands. See what works best for you or follow the instructions on the packaging.

Even more bars

In addition to shampoo, conditioner, body scrub, shower foam, shaving foam and facial cleanser are also available in handy and compact bars!

Examples

Below are some examples of shampoo bars that I have tried (#nospon). Note: Some of the bars are only available in The Netherlands.

Dille en Kamille shampoo bar n3, curly hair

This shampoo bar from Dille & Kamille is soap-free and designed for curly hair. The shampoo comes unwrapped. The shampoo bar lathers well, but not excessively. It smells of lime blossom. For me, this made the shampoo smell a bit too soapy. However, I was satisfied with the shampoo's effectiveness. It adds volume and shine to your hair. Dille & Kamille also sells a handy storage tin for your bar. Perfect for traveling!

HEMA shampoo bar, volume

This shampoo bar from HEMA is free of microplastics and vegan. It comes packaged in a cardboard box. This shampoo lathers very well and forms foam almost immediately upon contact with water. The best part about this bar, for me, is the scent; it has a pleasant coconut aroma. HEMA sells various storage containers and sachets for the bars. Once the bar is broken into pieces, you can reuse the sachets to extend its life.

Tinktura shampoo bar, silver

This shampoo bar has a striking blue color and is packaged in a cardboard box. The shampoo is paraben- and SLS-free. The shampoo doesn't lather much at first, but after several uses, it lathers up nicely. One drawback is that the bar tends to fall apart a bit towards the end, leaving you with several chunks of shampoo bar. This shampoo is designed for curly or wavy hair. The bar gives my hair plenty of volume and more bounce. The biggest plus for me was the scent: it has a wonderfully fruity scent!
